Tech Tips

Software Systems

Always use a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) on:

  • Your server
  • Network components i.e. hubs, printers, workstations, modems etc. (Modems should also have surge protection on incoming lines)
  • Other essential AC connected equipment

Backup your files daily!

  • Use an external hard drive, tape drive, writeable CD, zip drive or copy data to another computer
  • Verify your backups
  • Always keep a copy of your backup off premises in case of local disaster (fire, flood etc.).

Do not reboot the system while accessing a database or in the middle of a query or process

  • During queries, reports and processes, database files are open and turning off power can damage these files.
  • Perform a normal shutdown whenever possible.
  • Reboot your computer if you notice inconsistent or erratic behavior. System software can cause memory problems that can affect your computers performance. Remember to exit Yardmaster Systems before rebooting.

Hardware Systems

The handheld is a computer that costs thousands of dollars and more complicated and sensitive than other hardware (calculators, cameras, phones).

Charging your handheld's batteries is important. Only use rechargeable batteries in your unit (not alkaline). Charging alkaline batteries can cause the batteries to explode and melt the circuit. This is NOT covered by the maintenance agreement! Charging time for a unit should be 10-12 hours. Rechargeable batteries have a charge memory; they will lose the ability to hold a charge properly if over charged.

To clean your unit, wipe the exterior with a soft, clean cloth, dampened with rubbing alcohol. Never try to clean the interior of the unit (Please return it to FSI for cleaning).

Never attempt to repair your unit. Any type of repair (cosmetic or hardware) should be performed by our trained technicians. (Please call FSI first to see if a problem can be resolved over the phone. If not, a Return Authorization Number will be issued. All service returns must have an RA#.)

By taking proper care in the usage, storage and charging of your unit you ensure a long, trouble free lifespan.
